Nick Lampson was a Democrat member of the U.S. House from Texas's 9th congressional district from 1997 to 2005. After redistricting, Lampson ran unsuccessfully in Texas's 2nd congressional district in 2004. After a one-term hiatus from Congress, he was elected in Texas' 22nd district. This is the district which had previously been represented by former Republican majority leader Tom DeLay until mid-2006. In November, 2006, Shelley Sekula-Gibbs was sworn in to serve out the remainder of DeLay's unexpired term. Owing to the timing of DeLay's departure, the Republicans were not able to place a substitute candidate on the ballot. The Republican Party fielded Sekula-Gibbs as a write-in candidate in the November, 2006 general election. Lampson won the general election 52 to 42 percent.

Lampson Campaign Statement on Illegal Immigration:
Legal immigration is a part of our heritage, and, as the grandson of immigrants, I will always respect that. But the laws of this land must also be respected. As your Congressman, I will work to secure our borders and get illegal immigration under control.
(Ed. note: Lampson's history on border issues reflects an open borders voting record.)

Lampson Campaign Statement on Federal Spending:
I do not believe we need big tax increases. We need fiscal discipline, not more revenue. We have terrible waste in our government that can be addressed right now. We shouldn't be spending on pork projects like bridges to nowhere in Alaska and a tea pot museum in North Carolina. We must set priorities and stick to them.
(Ed. note: Lampson's history on tax and spending issues reflects a tax-and-spend voting record.)

Lampson Record on Abortion:

As shown by his overall pro-life rating, Lampson has a pro-choice voting record.

Lampson Record on the Second Amendment:

As shown by his overall pro-gun rating, Lampson has a pro-gun voting record.
