I was excited about going to the Lone Star Tea Party, as I participated in the Tax Day Tea Party last year, as well as a number of other protests. This year both of my parents were in attendance as well. Like almost everyone who attended the event, we waited in traffic patiently, found a really far away parking spot and then made the long trek to the stadium. Unlike many of the other attendees, we were denied entrance to the event. Not by a person, but a sign.
Private businesses that wish to prohibit the legal carrying of a concealed handgun are required to post what is known as a "30.06 sign". Fortunately, very few businesses actually bother with doing so. My parents and I took a class last fall and all 3 of us are now licensed to carry concealed. I carry my handgun everyday, everywhere that I am able but on the rare occasions I run into a "30.06 sign" I have taken my business elsewhere. I was surprised and dismayed to see one of these signs at the entrance to the Lone Star Tea Party, especially since I have been told that the sign was not there before the event. As you can see in the picture below, the sign appears to have been quickly zip-tied to the fence. My parents and I asked a few of the volunteers about the sign but unfortunately no one knew who had placed it or why. Since I would be breaking the law by entering the event, we chose instead to go home.
Can anyone please shed some light on this issue? Who posted the sign, and why?

Texas CHL holders are prevented by law from legally carrying at SPORTING EVENTS.
The Lone Star RALLY was not a SPORTING EVENT so it appears the sign was ILLEGAL.
I would have gone home also, if I thought the sign was LEGAL.

But wait...I still didn't get a response...why exactly do you have to have your gun there, to the point that if you can't have it, you go home like your are a 10 yr old? Why did you need it? You are into people, owners of enterprise, being able to make their own decisions right? Well, they didn't want your guns. So...? What am I missing?

TexasBeta: I can't speak for Ace, but I do know that the CHL process is a big ordeal to go through. Many who have gone through the process, choose not to patronize establishments that choose to post a 30.06 notice. It can be a bit like going in without your pants on. I doubt it was out of fear for his own safety. It would be a matter of principle.
I hope that answers your question.
