I was a member of Farm Bureau up until about 6p. on Oct. 11, 2009... and that is when I publically dropped my FB membership (annual mtg. and dinner). Farm Bureaus eminent domain attorneys support passage of Prop.11... but it is these same attorneys who will see a huge influx of new business as a result of the passage of this counterfeit proposition. Proposition #11 is a counterfeit eminent domain bill as instead of cutting back on entities who have the power to use eminent domain, Prop.11 allows for the granting of eminent domaion powers to non-governmental utility providers who currently do not have these powers (your non-governmental water, electric, telecommunications, and even your local cable provider). Slipery politicians removed wording that would've required 'JUST' compensation being paid when land is 'taken'. Legislators even replaced the words 'utility providers and common carriers' with just the word ENTITY (in the enrolled version of HJR14... just so one wouldn't see
A Tea Party endorsed group for Prop Eleven? Are you kidding me? Don't read the summary and think you know what it will do. Read the actual wording instead. This is a nightmare waiting to happen.
Unless you want to make a career out of fighting eminent domain abuse every time the Texas Legislature is in session, vote against this garbage. This is special interest driven and will allow by law the presumption that any "taking" the paid-off scum in the Lege wants to accomodate is ok, and those who want to fight back will have the eminent domain concept to work AGAINST more them than for them from the start.
And by the way: If Prop Eleven passes, say hello to the Trans Texas Corridor reborn and any other quasi-private theft of rights-of-way you can conceive of, and some you can't even imagine yet.
Empower Texans my foot!!! Empower them to do what? Surrender? No, Thanks.
I have to vote NO on Prop 11. Seems to me that there is too much power given to the Legislature to decide what "Entities" will have eminent domain. Could be anybody they make a back-door deal with.
this will limit the authority to take property for economic tax gain alone , they cant take land and give it to a builder to build the tax base thats what its about
I already know the answer to this, I'm sure, even though I only teach fifth grade...but I have to vent! Why the crap do all of these propositions have to be written in such convoluted, obscure language? Why should we have to go to five different sites to find out how others "recommend" that we vote? Don't get me wrong-I'd be lost without someone to explain to me what all the "lingo" entails and I've got a college education! Now I'm wondering why...it certainly gives me no advantage when it comes to participating, albeit in a small way, in shaping the government of the country I love. How true it is: "The devil's in the details!" I wish I'd been smart enough to get a law degree...how sad is that?!
